Employees secure entrances and exits in the staging area

Deployment for the THW in the staging area at the Nürburgring and outposts in the Ahr valley – CIBORIUS

August 30, 2021

CIBORIUS was commissioned by the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) to provide security services in the staging area at the Nürburgring and various outposts in the Ahr valley. The requested security services include securing emergency vehicles and the materials warehouse by means of entry and exit checks as well as patrolling parking areas. A CIBORIUS team of over 50 security personnel has been working in the staging area since the beginning of August.

The catastrophic flooding was triggered by low pressure system Bernd, which moved into Central Europe on July 13, 2021. The federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia were particularly affected by the consequences of the destruction after persistent heavy rainfall in southern and western Germany. Since the beginning of the flood, the THW has been in continuous operation with local units from all over Germany, with up to 1400 emergency personnel from the police, fire department, German Armed Forces and aid organizations helping on site: the power supply and transport network and even the drinking water supply had collapsed at times. Entire houses, streets and bridges were destroyed. The German Armed Forces are busy removing garbage, soil and other materials that have washed ashore. The helpers on the ground have already put in 1.5 million hours of work.
